The Tanner Report/ After glow
Fulham fans have never been happier and it takes quite a bit to make us happy or rather to get us out of fatalist mode. Someone said that everybody loves Fulham, they are only a danger to themselves. At various points in the last few months it looked like the ‘same old, same old’ of missing out and letting us down. I’m thinking of Brentford’s late, late equaliser in extra time, the defeats at Birmingham and then Derby. In December after losing to Sunderland we were 17th. However there is resilience about this side exemplified by the way they held out 11 against 10 for the last 30 minutes against Aston Villa as one player after another threw their body on the line to block and tackle.
Fulham friends asked where did our 38,000 fans come from? I don’t know.
Who thought of the White Wall? Whoever it was deserves a medal.
It must have been an inspiration to the team with their last ditch defending in those 30 minutes.
The glow has not gone away but the enormity of the season’s achievements is beginning to register: promotion to the Premier, the 23 game unbeaten run, the best youngster we have produced since Johnny Haynes in Ryan Sessegnon, the fluid passing game so easy on the eye but in which the coach Slavisa Jokatovic has total confidence and the team bought into … and a day at Wembley we will never forget.
