The Tanner Report / Ciao Ranieri

The departure of Claudio Ranieri yesterday did not come as any surprise. The taunts from the Fulham fans of “You don’t know what you’re doing” at the last two games indicated that he if he might have lost the dressing room he had certainly lost the confidence of the fans.

Some of his selections and tactics were baffling, he did not arrest the decline he inherited and now he has been sacked from his last three clubs (Leicester ,Nantes and us).

Ironically Leicester also sacked their manager this week. Not that a sacked manager has to worry financially. The payouts to Jose Mourinho and his team have been assessed at £50 million plus. Whilst seemingly there is no money to reduce ticket prices at Premiership clubs, pockets are deep to compensate failures. I’m told bya journalist friend of mine that $anieri might now have received £25m in compensation from sackings

Stuart Gray was sacked and paid off but now returns as coach to Scott Parker.

The omens are good for ex-Fulham players who have their first stab at management at Fulham. Think Malcolm MacDonald and Chris Coleman.

But these two did not have to deal with a recruitment structure that more than anything is responsible for this lamentable season after all the potential of last one. Scott Parker is interim appointment.

I would like to see David Wagner, who did so well at Huddersfield and has already achieved a Championship promotion, appointed full time.

About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years.
