The Tanner Report: Everton 1 Fulham 1
There are few things more disappointing than conceding a late goal – just like scoring one is one of the spectator’s greatest joys.
A late goal tends to discolour the performance as Fulham played well and deserved to win.
Although we are settled mid-table in tenth place the question needs to be asked why in 10 matches this season we have taken the lead but not won?
Everton’s late equaliser was not caused by slipshod defending but a cool cross from the evergreen Ashley Young and Sun Beto sticking his head where it hurts to score.
Watching on Match of the Day, I thought Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Theo Walcott – all three top strikers – might comment on the present tactic of playing only one forward up top: often that player has to toil against two central defenders, but where are partnerships – and the fox -in-the-box playing off the big man?
Like sweepers, long throws and shorter goalkeepers with no footwork, they seem out of fashion.
Ironically Everton ‘s last victory over Fulham was 7 years ago when Marco Silva was their manager
