The Tanner Report: Fulham 1 Leeds 2
This was a game Fulham had to win but did not and in interview after the defeat Head Coach Scott Parker admitted that was deserved.
Leeds are a fit hard working side that pressed Fulham right to the final whistle. We had neither our normal composure nor rock-like defence of recent months.
Only Lemina really put in a decent shift; possession was squandered, chances not taken and mistakes made all over the pitch.
Only VAR prevented Leeds from taking an early lead.
Another goal was ruled out and a Leeds lead seemed inevitable.
Indeed it was when Patrick Bamford beat Tosin to a near post low cross to fire home.
However Leeds always looked uncomfortable at set pieces and from one corner Joachim Andersen scored the equaliser with a low strike from close in.
Undeservedly on equal terms at half time Fulham ‘s striking power was enhanced by the introduction of Alex Mitrovic for Josh Maja. Mitro had only netted two goals all season, both scored last September and is out of form.
A brilliant save by Leeds keeper Meslier proved the turning point as 3 minutes later Raphinha scored the winner from a break.
The Fulham defence, which had now conceded 5 goals in 2 home games, should have done better.
With 8 games left Fulham have tough away encounters at Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal; easier games at Aston Villa and Southampton; and winnable home matches against Wolves, Burnley and Newcastle.
Scott has said it’s in our hands but I bet he will be watching Brighton v Newcastle tonight.
