The Tanner Report: Fulham 2 Peterborough 1

The score-line might suggest a closer match than the reality as, but for some excellent keeping by Peterborough’s Stephen Benda, the final result might have been 5-1.

Time and time again Benda produced world class saves often in one-on-one situations.

Alex Mitrovic scored a brace. The first came from the penalty spot, the second a finish after a fine move comprising a trademark dribble from Fabio Carvalho and a cross from Kebano.

Mitrovic, now setting the new record for Championship scoring (33 goals), might attract the headlines but my man of the match was Jean Michel Seri.

He came to Fulham from OGC Nice with both a massive reputation and fee.

He scored a spectacular goal against Burnley but lost his form as the team struggled, Rene Meulensteen and Claudio Ranieri came and went.

Under Head Coach Scott Parker he was sent out on loan to Fenerbahce.

It looked like the main aim was to get him off the wage book.

He has had a new lease of life under Marco Silva but had to play in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Tom Cairney had a poor game in the defeat by Huddersfield and so Seri replaced him.

From the start his passing was exquisite and he demanded the ball. It was an examplar of midfield play. Now the club must decide if they want him to go at the end of his contract in the summer.  If young Carvalho does go, he could prove especially valuable.

So Fulham march on – 8 points clear of the third place team QPR – and top scorers in all 4 divisions.

We still have to play Bournemouth, QPR and Blackburn from the chasing pack but you would have to be either a brave man or a foolish one to back us against promotion.
