The Tanner Report: Fulham 3 Spurs 0
Normally when Fulham beat one of the big boys the story is more about the latter’s defeat than the Fulham victory but this time the press were unequivocal in their Fulham praise, as epitomised by the Telegraph line:
“Spurs were not just defeated. They were thumped.”
From first to last Fulham dominated and the final score did not flatter us.
Spurs only had the one forward and their midfield attacking trident of Kulusevski, Johnson and Maddison did not fire.
By contrast the resurgent rejuvenated Rodrigo Muniz made it 7 goals out of 7 and the starting midfield of Willan, Pereira and Iwobi were aways lively.
Best of all, Fulham’s full backs Tim Castagne and Antonee Robinson used their pace to get down the wing and deliver telling crosses.
For many years Fulham’s best ever finish achieved in the 1960s was tenth. Under Roy Hodgson some 15 years ago we finished seventh and qualified for the Europa League reaching the final. This season if we can get 7 more wins it’s conceivable we can qualify for European competition as it looks like England will be awarded 5 Champions League places. Even if we do not qualify it’s been a terrific season with victories over Arsenal , Manchester United and Spurs and reaching the semifinals of the Carabou Cup. Relegation has never been an issue.
