The Tanner Report: Liverpool 1 Fulham 0

Fulham have now lost 7 of their last 9 games but this does not tell the whole story as the performances have been competent and the results tight.

Last night it took a penalty awarded by the feckless Stuart Attwell – a weak referee – which would not have been awarded outside Anfield to create the victory.

Had the decision been given against Liverpool then rest assured, Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool fans – always the victims never the volunteers – would have bored the world of football with their grievances.

Vinicius, the replacement for 8-match banned Alex Mitrovic, had some good chances.

I recall when Gordon Davies – Fulham’s leading goal scorer – made the side after his transfer from Merthyr Tydfil he missed many, as did Gary Lineker, but they had the self-confidence to continue and reach the top of their profession.

I’m not saying Vinicius will but he is a better striker than given credit for.

It’s Fulham’s first season back too and we have never been in relegation difficulties. Nor do our fans have the entitlement of Everton’s that they have a divine right to stay in the Premier. Remember Frank Lampard was the fans’ choice there.

Fulham’s run-in contains one tricky away game v Manchester Utd and easier fixtures against Crystal Palace, Leicester and Southampton.

5/7 points would ensure a top ten finish.
