The Tanner Report: Manchester City 3 Fulham 2

Manchester City have gone 50 games undefeated at home and 16 games undefeated (home and away) against Fulham winning the last 12 on the trot.

Though few had given us much hope at the Etihad, had Adama Traoré been able to finish more lethally, we might have won.

The head coach chose a more defensive line up with Sander Berge coming in ahead of Emile Smith Rowe. We took an early lead when an outrageous back flick across goal by Raul Jimenez created a chance which Andreas converted.

We did not hold the lead for long as Kovacic’s shot was deflected past Bernd Leno who was well positioned for the shot by Joachim Andersen.

Andersen is a superb defender who can organise a back four and his quarterback style long ranging passes are a delight but he is accident  prone.

Adama Traore’s pace and power were uncontainable.  He burst past Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker but his finishing was not effective though, to be fair, Edelson made 3 fine saves.

Edelson epitomises the modern keeper, who has to have good feet, but in this game he used them to thwart Triaoré.

The best evidence of a fine performance was that by the end City were playing “5 at the back” and time-wasting and the press coverage afterwards shared by the analysts was less focussed on City, more on Fulham.
