The Tanner Report: Reading 1 Fulham 4

Let’s not get too carried away. Reading were a poor side even without being reduced to 10 men for the majority of this match. Fulham looked best this season against another poor side Millwall. We failed to beat neither Nottingham Forest nor WBA who are above us.

We can say that the Parker possession system is beginning to pay dividends.

Tom Cairney opened the scoring with a carbon copy of his Wigan goal, a curling drive from outside the box.

Alex Mitrovic scored two more and then a dreadful lapse by the Reading keeper allowed Cairney to chip into an empty net.

Reading scored one late consolation goal – the best on the night.

My man of the match was Stefan Johansen who ran his socks off in midfield. He was adjudged not good enough for the Premiership and farmed out to WBA on loan but it’s no coincidence that Cairney is playing better with SJ alongside him. With Harry Arter as holding midfielder we have all the ingredients of a successful midfield.

On Saturday high flying Charlton come to the Cottage and I can’t wait.

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years.
