The Tanner Report: WBA 0 Fulham 0
This much anticipated fixture ended in a drab goalless draw and we Fulham supporters were disappointed by our lack of adventure.
There were some Fulham players that caught the eye – the always industrious Harrison Reed; Anthony Knockaert whose fierce effort from distance struck the bar; and the imperious Michael Hector – and a few that will forget the game as soon as possible: Bobby Decordova-Reid, Josh Onomah and Alex Mitrovic.
It was an Albion player defender Hegazi who was my man of the match.
With Fulham attacking down the flanks he was in position to deal with every cross and subdued Alex Mitrovic.
Fulham started the more brightly, WBA came in their own both sides of half-time but with the game swinging back to Fulham we were strangely passive.
Left back Joe Bryan, for example, who makes so many goals for Mitrovic hardly made a onward run in the latter stages.
One group of fans who are unlikely supporters of Fulham and QPR who face WBA in their last game are Brentford’s.
With seven wins on the bounce they play Preston tonight who have definite play-off aspirations.
More than any other team Brentford have adapted best to matches behind closed doors and certainly they will be the team to fear in the play-offs.
It may be that after an hour of stalemate Scott Parker felt our best option was to keep our powder dry for the play-offs.
We certainly missed Tom Cairney as nothing was created from midfield and one assumes that he will be fit.
It would be good if Abou Kamara is too for his power and pace.
The jury is still out on Scott Parker and his possession-based game can look laborious and dangerous.
But its his first full season and an extraordinary one with Covid, a three-sided stadium and his Fulham have fared better than the two that went down with us – Cardiff and Huddersfield.
