The Tanner Report: Fulham 3 WBA 0

For the second consecutive match Fulham won albeit unconvincingly.

Alex Mitrovic scored a hat-trick but the first was from a soft penalty, the second after sloppy defending and the third a tap-in after a brilliant dribble from Harry Wilson.

Whilst our fans tend to moan about penalties given against their team, as at Coventry, they forget the soft ones given as in this match.

Surprisingly, both Fulham’s most creative midfielders were on the bench – Tom Cairney and Fabio Carvalho – as they were deemed not ready for 90 minutes. Which of them to play is a nice problem to have.

On Sky Mark Schwarzer, the former Fulham keeper, expressed doubt about the pairing in central defence of Tosin and Tim Ream.

Tosin in particular justified the criticism, culminating in a silly foul which led to a red card and probable 3 match ban.

Fulham are now 4 points clear of WBA and 10 points clear of  seventh-placed Blackburn who they meet at Ewood Park in the week

I’m beginning to wonder – if we achieve our third promotion in 3 seasons – how we will fare and in particular whether we can similarly avoid 3 relegations in 4 seasons.

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years.
