Thoughts on LIV/PGA/DP World Tour
They say God lives in the details but if so where is his Divine Presence in the above merger?
No one seems to know how the ‘framework agreement’ will work in practice.
Superficially, it’s about Saudi Arabia money and soft power versus greedy golfers.
However, LIV is not just about lucre nor those that signed up greed.
The LIV format is 54 not 72 holes and a team event. How will this be incorporated?
Some of the golfers that signed up – like Open Winner Cameron Smith – did so to spend more time with their families and swerve the grind of the circuit.
And where will Ryder Cup selection fit into this ?
Will Brooks Koepka be admitted back to the fold?
A good friend of mine’s son has recently been recruited by the sports desk of a leading daily newspaper to cover golf.
I told him that LIV has shifted the focus from Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods , but the big boys in the department are all over the story some from the McIlroy angle
Perhaps once the dust is settled things will be clearer.
I was down at Windsor Races on Monday night for the evening meet.
It’s always pleasant, particularly the boat trip to the course.
However it’s a hard event at which to pick winners as some of the races are 6 furlong dashes for two year olds with no form.
The longer races are on a figure of eight course.
Normally I oppose favourites, but it’s a bit daft to watch a race hoping your horse won’t win.
So I am prepared to write off 80 quid as part of the ‘craic’.
Hopefully I can make this up on Saturday as I have a strong fancy that Inter can overturn Manchester City.
