Vacation or staycation?
It’s been a most confusing time for the traveller and therefore the industry.
You simply do not know whether foreign travelling is feasible. Before the Indian variant came along it seemed that on or after June 21st all restrictions would be lifted.
Of course you can go to a green light country like Israel where there is a war or Tristan da Cunha which does not have an airport.
I was trying to organise a Rust trip to Munich in June but there was universal concern about quarantine, airport queues and Covid testing.
So in the end I conceded defeat.
Yesterday I spent the day at Windsor seeing a friend.
The journey time there and back by car was under 4 hours.
My friend chose a delightful gastro pub the Two Brewers in the shadow of Windsor Castle.
Windsor is not just a pretty place on the river but nearby are Henley, Marlow and Cookham – all on the Thames.
My point being there is so much to see in our island without any Covid testing or quarantine.
The only negative is the weather.
Even in a sweater I was perishingly cold and we are approaching the longest day.
Yet even in the worst of weathers there is always something to on offer.
At Windsor you can visit the Castle or go to nearby Cookham to see the Stanley Spencer museum.
Sports lovers can enjoy evening racing at Windsor commencing with a delightful boat trip to the course.
You can see the lovely chapel of Eton where 18 Prime Ministers were educated.
You are also within striking distance of London.
I know where I am going this summer ..and not going.
