At 11.00 am yesterday there was a knock on my door and a Chinese lady identified herself as my neighbour. She asked if I had water and on turning the taps I said no.
It was 12 hours before the water supply was restored. To have no water for such a long time is a massive inconvenience but – at a time of pandemic when washing hands is essential – critical.
It was also frustrating because to get any sort of update I was referred to social media and the Facebook page of Southern Water.
The explanation was a mains bursting in nearby Rottingdean which had blocked all water supply to homes in the BN2 postcode area, at a guess I would say 30,000 homes.
No contingency plan, no time frame for repair and restoration, no communication.
It will be interesting now to see if Southern Water offer any compensation, say £25 off the next bill.
I won’t be holding my breath.
