Whatever you want

As a forward-looking 21st Century man I like to think that I’m pretty liberal on most matters to do with human relationships and hold a relaxed attitude towards the interests of others, even if they should differ from mine.

The universe is an entity without boundaries or limits, that is, if it is an entity at all.

Variety is the spice of life. Whatever floats your boat. One man’s meat is another’s poison. Each to their own. Whatever anyone gets up to in private, provided it’s not harming another party physically or mentally (well, I suppose unless they want it to!) is fine by me.

I suspect (or like to think) I may be verging towards the concepts of Ying and Yang here, but when it comes to human and sexual relationships it would be kind of reassuring if – for everyone who has (or develops) an interest in any ‘special’ activity or aspect of life – there was someone else who also shared it and/or had a similar degree of interest in the ‘other side’ of it.

Take sadomasochism: for every sadist there would hopefully be a masochist because that confluence might form a centrepiece of a relationship partnership.

[I perhaps should add that here I may be edging beyond my pay grade in such matters, but I suppose this thought may not hold water if, for some of those with a sadistic bent, part of the ‘attraction’ or qualifying criteria is that the object of their attentions should be a genuinely unwilling party in what is happening. I say that because presumably – by definition, for some – it may not be a turn-on if they know that the person they are being sadistic towards is actually enjoying the experience. That is, of course, unless maybe it is.]

My mind turned to such matters when I alighted upon the following pieces by Dave Maclean which feature on the website of The Independent:

Firstly, on the subject of – GIANTS

Secondly, on the subject of – NEWSPAPERS

I don’t know about you, but I find myself harbouring a slight sense this morning that I should try to get out more …
