Wimbledon

Daddy bought me a debenture for Wimbledon but we agreed this year that I would sell the tickets for the fortnight back to the All England Club and use the money for a holiday.

I’m a fully paid-up member of the “Watch it on television” Rusters group and cannot believe the prices asked by agencies.

One such agency emailed me yesterday, asking £12,500 for a par of tickets for the Men’s final.

Despite the equality in prize money, the asking price for the Ladies Final was £3,500.

Market forces beat feminist equality.

Imagine if a punter paid these level of prices in the hope of a Djokovic v Nadal final!

Matthew Syed, one of my favourite sport columnists, called the BBC coverage complacent.  I agree.

There is far too much celebrity-watching of the Royal Box and the commentary is tired, predicable and lacks insight.

The main personalities get away with carefully crafted TV sound bites.

It would be good to know what the big three – Nadal, Federer and Djokovic – really think of one another, not what they say…
