Sussex v Worcestershire/first day
It was a topsy turvy day at Hove.
The Sussex pace attack was denuded by the loss of Jayden Seales and Danny Lamb – so John Hayes was borrowed from Nottinghamshire – and Ari Karvalas was selected.Tom Haines and Dan Hughes set up an opening platform of 80 but wickets then tumbled either side of lunch and Sussex were 82-4 and 127-6. It was left to Jack Carson to rally the tail with his maiden century, Hayes also contributing 33.
Sussex were 284 all out and at stumps Worcestershire 7-0.
Tom Haines (53) is on the selectors’ radar but Jack Carson, a spinner who proved he is no mug with the bat, is a more likely contender.
