Welcome to West Sussex
I mostly write about the delights of East Sussex but West Sussex too has much to offer.
Yesterday’s post by Bob Tickler neglected to mention his acquisition of a beach hut on the Chichester peninsula and he can be found sometimes with a bottle of bubbly with a grandee, sometimes sharing a beer with his handyman, contemplating the sea.
Chichester was profiled in the July issue of Sussex Life a glossy which sometimes crosses the blurred line between advertorial and feature copy.
I know how these magazines operate. They tell local commerce and schools of a forthcoming feature and encourage them to advertise.
Nonetheless, it was an interesting feature on a city with a cathedral with Chagall stained glass windows, arguably the best theatre outside London, the Pallant Gallery for its brilliant modern British art and standing collection, a canal and a marina.
To this you can add the yachties at Itchenor and the beach at West Wittering, which regularly features as one of the best in Britain.
You are within striking distance of Goodwood and Fontwell Park for horse racing – the most beautiful cricket ground in Britain at Arundel – and the Kingsley Vale National Nature Reserve.
No wonder Bob prefers Sussex to London!
