About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years. The Alan Tanner Report is sponsored by Tanner Crystal Clear Ltd, Window Cleaners to the Gentry. More Posts

The Tanner Report- phew!

Fulham have earned the reputation over all the years I have supported them as the Great Escapologists with the most unlikely of results but conversely they have tormented us by failing to finish the simplest of jobs. Yesterday all we needed to do was beat or equal Leeds’s result. We drew, [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 3 Aston Villa 1

With four successive wins following the victory over Aston Villa Fulham are in the play-off berths. Rather like a well-timed run in a horse race, we were stuck in the mid group but when we challenged in the last few lengths we hit the leaders with momentum. One of the features of this run is that [...]

The Tanner Report : Norwich 1 Fulham 3

Football fans are hypocritical creatures. Take the play-offs. Last season I commiserated with Ivan that his beloved Brighton should have to play against Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs as they were 15 points and 4 places above them to determine promotion and they lost. This season Brighton are [...]

The Tanner Report: Fulham 3 Ipswich 1

Fulham disposed of a poor Ipswich easily enough but we were not convincing and did not convince the faithful of our play-off credentials. There were some interesting features to the selection and play. Bettinelli, out of favour for the season, came in goal for David Button and Michael Madl for Tim [...]

The Tanner Report: Rotherham 0 Fulham 1

Fulham condemned Rotherham to relegation as they gritted out a win against a side who played with the brio of the condemned man eating his final meal. Crucially for the first time since September we are in a play-off place but on Tuesday we travel to Derby whilst Sheffield Wednesday whom we [...]

It’s Just Banter/ Leroy Rosenior

Leroy Rosenior’s autobiography will be of interest beyond the supporters of the 3 clubs he played for – Fulham, QPR and West Ham and the three he managed Bristol City, Torquay and Brentford. Born in Sierra Leone, whom he later managed for 2 games, growing up in Brixton in the sixties [...]

The Tanner Report : Fulham 1 Wolves 3

Fulham are the Arsenal of the Championship with our passing game so pleasant on the eye but ineffective against teams who scrap. Harold Wilson famously observed that a week is a long time in politics, it certainly is at Fulham. A week ago we beat league Newcastle 3-1 then only achieved 1 point from [...]

The Tanner Report : Fulham 2 Blackburn 2

Over the years I have followed the whites I have witnessed Fulham extricate themselves from seemingly impossible situations to survive a relegation battle but equally let us down in expectation in failling to win a vital, winnable game. Years ago I can recall a Friday night game against Blackburn [...]

Newcastle 1 Fulham 3

One of the advantages of being a blogger – to the writer if not the reader – is the lack of accountability. In my last post I predicted Fulham would not make the play-offs. After this victory and the defeats suffered by Sheffield Wednesday and Reading a play-off place is more than a [...]

The Tanner Report : Fulham 3 Preston 1

Fulham’s comfortable and complete victory over in-form Preston, only one place below us, keep us in the play-off race. The three teams above us -Sheffield Wednesday, Reading and Leeds – all won so there is still a gap in points to overcome. It was a good week for Fulham with Stefan [...]
