About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years. The Alan Tanner Report is sponsored by Tanner Crystal Clear Ltd, Window Cleaners to the Gentry. More Posts

The Tanner report: Fulham 2 Blackburn 1

Before the kick off there was a tribute to one of Fulham’s finest sons, Graham Leggat. He played 277 games for Fulham, that is more than is double the entirety of the players that took the field. Not one of them was playing for Fulham two seasons ago. I believe this is one of the reasons we [...]

The Tanner Report

Last night in the Capital Cup Fulham disposed of a Sheffield United team that made 10 changes from the side that played Blackpool to earn a tie against Stoke managed by our former boss Mark Hughes. It was good to see Ross MacCormack, who had looked sluggish so far, net two goals and young Moussa [...]

the Tanner Report: Hull 2 Fulham 1

“Things are going to have to change and sharpish” was Kit Symons’ post match comment. He’s right and what might change first is his job. We have one point out of nine, had we closed our last two games we would have had 3 draws but once again a late goal did for us. Contrast [...]

The Tanner Report on Fulham 1 Brighton 2

New season, new hopes, old problems. The chairman tells us in the programme for the first time in three years he is enjoying quiet confidence. I wish I could share  this. The cornerstone of a successful side is not always the glamourous striker but the the two central defenders who put in the hard [...]

New season, new hopes

Two years ago Cardiff played Fulham in the Premier, yesterday they met in the Championship and drew 1-1. One of the fascinations of the Championship, as opposed to the Premier, is that you cannot write the league now as it would stand in May. Last season no one predicted Bournemouth, few Watford. [...]

The Tanner Report

In all the years I have followed Fulham I have never renewed my season ticket with a heavier heart. Indeed even in the darkest days when we might have fallen out of the league altogether it would have been unthinkable not to renew. In those bleak days of the early 90s I was reassured that the board [...]

The Tanner (financial) report

There was tucked away in the ‘Slicker’ financial section of Private Eye an article on Fulham’s finances. It reported that Shahid Khan bought Fulham for £121m (not the £150-200m bandied about). The net assets of the Bermuda Company Big Cat Holdings, that were the vehicle for al [...]

The Tanner Report: Well Done Bournemouth

Here is a fact. At roughly the same time that Bournemouth, with 17 points docked for going into administration and in the bottom division, Fulham were a Premier side about to launch a Europa League campaign that saw us overcome Juventus, Shaktar Donetsk and Hamburg. So why – seven years on [...]

The Tanner Report

Yesterday I received my renewal package for my season ticket. The theme- spin would be a better word – was that Fulham is a “club like no other”: one of the attributes of this is is ‘resolve’. It’s a quality our defence might envy but does not possess; they have [...]

The Tanner Report: Kit, let’s be fair

I may make no bones about it that when Kit was made permanent manager I had deep reservations. However I’m not going now to say “Yah boo, I told you so” as I fully understood why the appointment was made. Kit had many things going for him. He was not Felix Magath but a popular [...]
